Is Ivy about Emily and Sue?
It’s interesting to note that the song “Ivy” is written from the perspective of a woman married to a man, much like Sue is married to Emily’s brother Austin (Adrian Blake Enscoe). Whatever her reasons were, Dickinson clearly had a strong independent streak and was content to live her life on her own terms.
